Storeguide 2023: Cologne – Fashion
Cologne is considered a stronghold of carnival and media location, but is also known for a lively fashion scene. Between the shopping streets Hohe Straße and Schildergasse, which connect the cathedral and Neumarkt, and the trendy Ehrenstraße, fashion fans will find inspiration on every corner. Thanks to the design universitys located there, the city regularly produces promising young talents.
Arket
Ehrenstraße 14, 50672 Köln
Arket refers to itself as a ,modern-day market’. This is the H&M brand’s fourth store in Germany: a functionally designed two-storey space that provides a showcase for women’s, men’s and children’s fashion as well as home accessories. The in-house café serves vegetarian and vegan dishes.
Hunkemöller
Hohe Str. 84, 50667 Köln
A large glass façade provides a view into Hunkemöller’s flagship store, which covers three floors and 465 sqm of sales space. All fitting rooms are equipped with bells that customers can use to summon staff for assistance and advice. The store also features an interactive fitting room in which customers can select different lighting styles. Music can be played using a touchscreen.
Levi’s Store
Schildergasse 84a, 50667 Köln
At the Levi’s store, fitting screens located on the shelves help customers find the right trousers. In addition to product information, short videos show what trousers look like when being worn. Customers can customise their own t-shirt at a print bar and see various designs via a touchscreen interface. A further highlight is ‘Levi’s studio’ on the basement level behind a large pane of glass. Here, customers can watch employees sewing clothes.

Overkill
Hahnenstraße 20, 50667 Köln
Overkill is a sneaker brand born of the Berlin graffiti scene. Its boutique-style store at Hahnentor in Cologne features around 450 shoe models displayed over 145 sqm of sales space. Special features include a sneaker wall made of Italian Statuario Venato marble.
Shaping New Tomorrow
Ehrenstraße 13, 50672 Köln
This is the second German store for the Danish men’s fashion label Shaping New Tomorrow. The store is designed around nature, comfort and upcycling, and these themes are present everywhere – from the clothes to the shop fittings. Stylised trees as tall as men with foliage made of recycled plastic, a ceiling element in the entrance designed especially for the store and a two-storey glass storefront exude that famous Danish ‘hygge’ feeling. Customers can contact staff directly via digital service panels in the changing rooms.

The first sustainable sneaker store in Cologne offers a diverse range of fair trade sneakers and is set to become the place to shop for fans of stylish and street-ready sneakers looking for sustainable, fair or vegan alternatives.
S. Oliver
Hohe Str. 135, 50667 Köln
In June 2022, the clothing company opened a store in Cologne with an entirely new concept for German city centres. Overall, there are fewer items and the shops appear brighter and more modern. The styles are staged in a warm, inviting atmosphere with indirect lighting.
Snipes
Hohe Str. 100-102, 50667 Köln
Asphalt flooring, corrugated metal walls and a cube-shaped screen like the kind you find in a basketball arena – the sneaker retailer Snipes’ store concept revolves around the streets and street culture. Snipes’ new concept includes refraining from using paper and cardboard. The visual merchandising is all digital; paper has been replaced by LED panels and screens.
Uniqlo

Der japanische Bekleidungseinzelhändler Uniqlo betreibt in Köln mit einer Gesamtverkaufsfläche von 2.214 qm den zweitgrößten Store in Deutschland in einem Glasgebäude in der Fußgängerzone. Beeindruckend sind die über 30 Schaufensterfiguren hinter den hohen Fensterscheiben der Fassade. Wie die Mode ist auch der Einrichtungsstil der Marke reduziert. Auf der Fläche unterstützen Screens die Warenpräsentation.
Urban Outfitters

The sixth German store of this US chain mixes art and vintage. Each store starts out by being completely stripped to make way for customised designs developed by a variety of artists. In Cologne, the look is ‘industrial chic’. Colourful, eye-catching murals by Spanish artist Ricardo Cavolo feature prominently.
Zara

The largest branch in Germany of this Spanish fashion chain offers a view of 3,000 sqm of floor space through a gigantic glass façade. The checkout areas on all floors are typically 15-metre-long displays. Restrained and matter-of-fact, the store design comes across as pristine, uncluttered and airy.
Zumnorde
Schildergasse 51-53, 50667 Köln
Modern, but with an appreciation of tradition: in this store, dark leather armchairs, shoe stands and shelving made of black steel and leather are combined with a glass roof and lift, LED lighting and a waterfall that connects all three floors. The women’s shoe department makes up the largest section of the store.
